My Morning Makeup Routine

Mornings are usually crazy busy for me especially since I have to be at work at 7:30 about a half an hour away from home and let’s just say I’m not a morning person! In order to simplify my morning makeup routine I recently purchased a makeup organizer from Amazon. It was the best purchase I’ve made in years. I’m a bit of an organization OCD freak so it was amazing for me to be able to see my makeup right out in the open where everything has its own place.

Within the past year I’d say that I’ve become obsessed with learning more about makeup. Specifically ways to make it looks beautiful and natural. It’s amazing how we spend out entire young lives up until about age 22 trying to use makeup to stand out and now that I’m approaching 30, I’m desiring a look that’s more fresh and natural. Well, I guess that’s just the way it goes!

Let me tell you YouTube has about a million (okay probably more) videos explaining ways that super talented makeup artists achieve that “flawless face”. I’m addicted to watching them and I’ve learned a few tricks along the way. Here’s one of my favorites! But I digress.

Every morning, I start by moisturizing. It’s funny, I recently watched a video depicting the difference between girls in their 20s and girls in their 30s [Here it is!] and one of the funniest parts I thought was when the 30 year old said something along the lines of “Thank God for moisturizer!” I laughed but honestly I can relate. I moisturize between 2 and 3 times a day and it makes all the difference for me. Right after I get out of the shower I use Mary Kay Formula 2 Balancing Moisturizer.

Right before I put on my makeup (i.e. after I dry my hair, etc.) I spray my new Vaseline Spray and Go Aloe Vera Lotion all over my legs, arms, neck, and lightly on my face to make sure all is moisturized. I admit I was skeptical when I saw the commercials…you know…the one where the girl literally jumps into her clothes right after the lotion is spray on. But they weren’t lyin’! It’s the truth, the lotion is so light that all I have to do is lightly mist it all over my body and it sinks in without feelings sticky. The light smell reminds me of a cucumber fresh melon scent without being overpowering.

I then move on to apply my primer. I’ve tried a million but my favorite of all time is the Avon MagiX Face Perfector. This cream is completely translucent and blurs all lines and pores. It also includes a sunscreen which is wonderful.

Then (on a good day when I’m not rushed!) I apply my Skin Perfecting liquid foundation by Merle Norman. This is a brand I’ve been loyal to since I was 16. My mom took me there back in high school because they make sure to keep a file on you and get you exactly what will blend into your skin, every time.

Since then, I’ve tried other foundations and this is the best one I’ve seen. After the liquid, I seal it with Merle Norman’s Golden Beige Ultra Powder foundation. Sometimes when I need foundation in a pinch I’ll just wear the powder. Today was definitely one of those days!

Of course, if the videos have taught me anything about makeup it’s CONTOUR, CONTOUR, CONTOUR! I’m personally loving Victoria’s Secret’s model bronzer for underneath my cheekbones and Merle Norman’s Lasting Cheekcolor in Angel Glow for my blush. When I need to hide bags I just use Wet N’ Wild’s concealer stick in medium!

Onto the eyes, my favorite part! I recently started using eyeshadow primer. A makeup artist recently told me it makes all of the difference. I picked up Wet N’ Wild’s Fergie Eyeshadow Primer at a CVS and went to town! When my best friend got married last week, I noticed my shadow didn’t crease or fade. Love it!

Naturally I love Urban Decay’s Naked Palette but when I can’t afford it my go-to is the Physician’s Formula palette in Warm Nude. These definitely get the job done and are surprisingly blendable and true to color.

My favorite part of doing my makeup would be the eyeliner and mascara. If I had to leave the house in 5 minutes (hello, today!) I would just wear my Lancome Hypnose mascara and my Merle Norman powder foundation. The new line of mascaras with Alber Elbaz teaming up with Lancome is to DIE FOR. I’m obsessed (I have 3!) My favorite is the Hypnose Drama that separates each lash and gives me outrageous volume. Several people have asked me if my eyelashes are fake when I wear this stuff.

As for lips, I usually go with MAC’s creme cup or Make Up For Ever’s #38 Satin Coral if I’m going for my daily lip.

Especially in the heat it’s tough to set your makeup so I’ll spritz my Vaseline Spray & Go lotion over my makeup once more to moisturize (my skin can get really dry) and then spray Model in a Bottle  (Tyra Banks’ makeup setting spray!) to seal it to prevent it all melting off in the humidity!

There ya have it–my morning makeup routine!

how to pack efficiently

As most of you may already know, I’m moving to the Orlando area next week and things have been crazy lately! Thursday morning we arrived in the Buffalo airport from a week long of hectic running around and orientation for my new job! We found a house and I can’t wait to share the photos!

Last week was spent waking up early to drive over an hour to orientation and then house hunting during the rest of the waking hours. It was crazy but worth it! It’s hard to believe that I only have one more week of living in the north!

One of the most important things I’ve had to figure out lately is how to pack efficiently for all of the traveling I’ve been doing/will be doing. I’d love to share with you a couple of my favorite packing tips to help you if you’ll be going on vacation soon or even moving!

One of the things that saved my life when jetting down to Florida last week was the “roll method” of packing. As seen here you roll up your clothes (I try to bundle two tops per bottom) and tie them off with a belt you need for the outfit or a headband/hair tie you’re taking on the trip with you. This saves so much space, wrinkles in your clothing, and your outfits are already pre-determined! PRESTO!

One tip I didn’t follow was to make sure that I had left room for shopping. Although we only shopped in the airport, I barely had room to stuff my new purchases!

I took some Old Navy tees and shorts along with me because I was able to mix and match most of them. One of my favorites is my new Pink Floyd tee! The colors in the prism make for limitless possibilities for accessorizing!

The floral shorts are another favorite–I’ve worn them with mixed prints (as seen here with a striped tee), graphic tee, or solid colored tank and bold blazer. It’s all about the bright patterns and fun colors this season!

Sorry I’ve been MIA lately! This week has been one of my most insane of my life! This week we found a house in Orlando, Florida and we’ll be moving in August 8th! I couldn’t be more excited! Today we started packing up all of our stuff. Nate left for his training right outside of New York City today and he’ll be there for a little over a month before coming down to join me in Florida permanently! 🙂

Our plane was delayed in Charlotte and so we didn’t end up getting home until around 2:30 in the morning Thursday then Molly and I immediately went to help Kristen set up for the wedding Friday. Yay! My best friend got married this weekend! Her wedding was absolutely beautiful and she looked gorgeous. We had so much fun in the party bus and at the reception. Unfortunately I won’t be getting to spend a lot of time with her before we have to leave. 🙁 That just means I’ll have to make lots of trips back up north to see her and the rest of my friends!

I’m excited to be partnering with Unionbay this week to give you guys a chance to win a $50 gift card to purchase any of their amazing items at Unionbay.com. All you have to do is like Unionbay on Facebook, follow them on Twitter and leave a comment with your name, email address, and tell us what you would buy and you’re in!
