Well, I made it through the first week at the new job. I have to say, I feel really good about it. I definitely made the right move because I love  my school and am happy to go to work. Everyone has been wonderful and so have the kids. I miss some of my girls from my old school but happy that they aren’t far away! 🙂

Lately, I’ve become obsessed with all of the fall fashion trends emerging in the magazines. Particularly, trends like fringe, neutrals, bandannas, lace up heels, wide brimmed fedoras, minimalism, and of course–off the shoulder tops have all struck my fancy lately.

However, finding the perfect off the shoulder top was a lot tougher than I originally thought it was going to be. I wanted to find a top that flattered and wasn’t cropped. This one fit the bill while simultaneously being cute with its bohemian-type print. And of course blue is my favorite color, so naturally I gravitated toward this one. I believe it’s on sale right now on Shopbop for around $30.

I’ve also gotten into rings as of late. This roman numeral ring from Sorella Jewelry is the newest addition to my daily jewelry ensemble. Being made of sterling silver, it goes perfectly with my engagement ring and is the perfect delicate statement for everyday. The store’s most popular ring is also available in other metals like 10k yellow and white gold, 14k yellow, white, and rose gold, palladium, and platinum. Best part is, you get to pick a date that’s special to you, making it the perfect gift for someone (even if that someone is yourself!). I love how thick it is and how obviously well-made. Sorella makes every item to order and does custom work daily.

I chose my birthday because it’s a date that will always stay with me. I’m hoping to get another eventually with Nate and my wedding date on it. I just love the idea of having a piece of jewelry so personal for everyday wear–it’s like the new monogram necklace. If you’re looking to fimd a special birthday gift, anniversary gift, or even wedding gift browse their site  {Facebook & Instagram} and check them out, they’re amazing.

Switching topics right quick–if you’re in the Orlando or Tampa area, come check out Whimsy Boutique [where I got these shorts!] from 4-7pm where I’ll be hosting their end-of-summer soiree where you’ll get goodie bags, styling advice, makeup, music, skincare, and much more while enjoying time with the girls. Bring whoever, everyone’s invited! I’m bringing Nate, we’ll see how badly he wants to kill me after hanging out around clothes and makeup even more than normal… 🙂

So yesterday was National Dog Day and when I came home, my dog got me a little surprise–a completely chewed up bucket bag! Thanks, Henna! Ughhh, I love her though 🙂

My newest Stitch Fix came in the mail yesterday and while I wasn’t a huge fan before, this week’s loot changed my mind. I’m a huge fan of the flowy dress, which I wore in this post. Paired with rich fall colors like brown and mustard (my fave!) florals are easily transitioned to autumn.

Luckily, our heat wave is still here, however I’m hoping Tropical Storm Erika dissipates before it reaches Florida. If you live in the south be prepared and stay safe 🙂 Have a great Friday!

Love this quote. I become my most creative this time of year. This is when all the fun new things crop up in my house!

Drink Recipe: Captain Smack

Hey everyone! It’s Nate again, and I hope you’re all thirsty. Here’s a little story…Once upon a time Nate and Missy’s families came for a visit and bought way too much spiced rum. Nate’s dad assured him everyone would drink it, but it was barely touched. Maybe it was because the much more versatile gin and vodka were available…maybe it was because good ol’ Captain Morgan looked a little too intimidating with his pirate sword and leg-up stance; we will never know for sure…okay, let’s skip to the end. I needed to come up with a show-stopper drink that would make everyone drain our surplus of spiced rum. It’s time to put on your eye patch and gather your crew for the Captain Smack! Let’s start with the vessel that will take us on this swashbuckling journey:

The copper mug! I’m sure most of you have noticed as I have that these things are catching on, and with good reason! A copper mug is not only visually stunning, but it also gives you the coldest, most refreshing drink experience you will ever have. If you want me to go all science on you I could tell you about how copper achieves this by being a fantastic conductor…but trust me, there’s not enough rum in the world to make my science rants interesting (just ask Missy, my family, friends, reluctant associates, etc.). These usually run about $10-15 for one which is a bit pricey but you will not be disappointed!

You will also need these ingredients:

1.5 oz Spiced Rum (duh.)

1 Lime

5 Leaves of Mint

1/2 tbsp Sugar

1 oz Cranberry Juice Cocktail

1 oz Orange Juice

Club Soda

Maraschino Cherries

Start by muddling the sugar, the juice of half the lime, and 3 mint leaves; it helps the process if you tear up the mint leaves before adding them. Complete this task using either a muddler and your mug, or if you’re nerdy (and by that I mean awesome) use a mortar and pestle…that way your friends will really think you know what you’re doing. With this mixture in the bottom of your mug, fill the mug with ice and let’s get the Captain in on this:

Add your 1.5 ounces of rum (don’t forget to say “Arrr!” while you do it). Now put in the fruit juices and stir everything to combine. Top this wonderful mixture off with club soda, a splash of maraschino cherry juice, and garnish it with the remaining mint leaves and a cherry. Feel free to add slices of the remaining half of the lime if you want more of that flavor. Now is the time to show off your creation:

BOOM! If you don’t think that looks refreshing then you’re probably a crazy person that doesn’t get invited to events where these are being served anyways (harsh, but true). The Captain Smack tastes light and refreshing unlike the heavier, over sweetened rum punch. It’s also suuuper cold when prepared in these wonderful copper mugs making it a perfect choice for these last days of hot weather. As always, don’t be afraid to play with this recipe. You could have a lot of fun combining different fruit juices and by doing so make a custom drink for each of your guests depending on their fruit preference using the same base. So next time you run into a surplus of spiced rum, invite everyone over for a Captain Smack. Cheers!
