5 Steps to your Best Lips + Kiss Lip Plumping System Review

5 steps to your best lips | Kiss Lip Plumping System Review

I’ve done the challenge, y’all! No, not the Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge, but a new kind of challenge–one that plumps your lips without the reckless endangerment. Ever since lip filler came onto the scene, they’ve left a question mark in my brain as I wavered between the thoughts of “well, that looks kinda sexy” and “I wouldn’t be caught dead doing that”. It seems to be the general conundrum most people my age have when it comes to messing with your lips. Either way, there’s no denying that if done right, plumping up your lips can look very sexy and full, especially when paired with your favorite lipstick. So, I did the work for you and tried a new product out on the market that costs eons less than any type of surgery or injectable.

My lip routine when making myself up in the morning usually consists of about 3 steps. Simple, right? For this challenge, I amped it up just two more steps, and honestly–it didn’t take more than 3 minutes. I wake up at 5 in the morning, so I know that I don’t have a lot of time to get out the door and try to look my best. So without further adieu, here are my 5 steps to achieving your best lips. You’ll be surprised how fast this is.

Step 1: Exfoliate 5 steps to your best lips | Kiss Lip Plumping System Review

Sloughing off dead skin cells is such an important step when you want your lips to look lush, moisturized, and most of all–receptive to the color you plan to put on later. I use a simple drugstore version from E.L.F that costs about $2. It goes on like a lipstick and has little grainy sand-like pieces inside of a moisturizing balm that are meant to remove dead skin cells and smooth out your lips. Once I’m finished applying, I wipe off the excess to remove all that graininess.

Step 2: Balm

To keep my lips smooth after the rough process of exfoliation, I lightly dab on a little lip balm. My favorite right now is The Lip Balm by La Mer–it works wonders for my seriously dry lips. This also helps to prep for the next step (our new added step!) in our lip plumping process.

Step 3: Kiss Lip Plumping Serum

The first step in the lip plumping process, the Kiss system comes with a little tube of serum. Apply a thin layer of serum before using the PMD Kiss lip plumper. I usually let the serum absorb for about 45-60 seconds before beginning to use the plumping tool.

You can feel it getting a little tingly within a few seconds of putting it on. It’s meant to help increase circulation and therefore your overall results when you use the actual tool. In my experiment, I tried the tool both with and without the serum, and I do like the results I get with the serum better. It reminds me a bit of those plumping lip glosses we used to get back in college, but with way better results! Haha!

Step 4: Kiss Lip Plumping Tool5 steps to your best lips | Kiss Lip Plumping System Review

Now, for the big time! I’ll admit I was a bit hesitant to use this after watching way too many Kylie Jenner lip challenge videos. I didn’t want my lips to turn out looking like a duck gif. I read on the box that you have to charge the device for about 2 hours prior to using it, so I did that the night before I tried it the first time. It lights up to let you know it’s charging.

The product comes with a small and large tip to attach onto the tool, depending upon your lip size. I tried the small first because I have pretty tiny lips, but then I tried the large and it didn’t work for me because there wasn’t enough “lip” for the suction. I think I’ll stick to the small.

There are two speeds on the tool and you just hit the little button on the top to switch over to the other speed. The first setting is a faster pulse–and you’re supposed to use it when you have to get ready quickly or you just want a light plump. The second setting is a bit slower and a little more intense–this one is what I used because I wanted to see the maximum results. You can switch your speeds when you apply the plumper to different sections of your lip, but I kept mine the same throughout each of the sections.

On the box, you’re told to apply the tool to the 4 quadrants of your lips (upper left, upper right, lower left, and lower right) to make sure each portion of your lips get an equal “plumping”, but the directions also suggest that you can add sections if you want. I originally went with the 4, then did 2 more sections (the middle top and middle bottom) for extra fullness.

After you have the serum on, you turn the plumper on with the button (choose which speed setting you want) then apply to whichever section of your lips you plan to start with. It should be fully on your lips, so you can feel a tight “vacuum-like” suction.

I kept the tool on each section for about 15 pulses (you can hear and feel the pulses when you turn on the tool). You’re advised to do between 10-25, depending on your preferences and lip type.

In addition to the plumping action, the tool stimulates collagen production so that your lips will naturally start to plump over time even though this process’s results only last for about 2-4 hours. Mine lasted a little over 2 hours, I’d say. I’d definitely use this for a photo shoot or if I was going out for a special event. The good news is that there’s 0% chance of damaging your lips with this product, so I felt happy that I could do as many pulses on my lips as I wanted and use it whenever I want.

Here are my before and after results:

I honestly didn’t think I’d see a difference, but clearly you can. I noticed it even more when I went to apply my liquid lipstick. My lips looked and felt way more full–especially my top lip–which is where I’m usually lacking. I like that it doesn’t look like I’ve had fillers–the box even warns you not to expect “filler results”. It looks like my  lips are slightly more plump but not in a way that it looks like I’ve had work done. All in all, I’m pleased and have used it again when Nate and I had a date night a few nights ago. I really like how it looks with a bright lipstick!

Step 5: Lip Color

I’m obsessed with the way my lips look after the plumper, especially when I add lipstick and gloss. For this look, I used Burberry’s Liquid Lip Velvet in Fawn #05 and Pixi Beauty’s clear lip gloss.

The way I see it, if you are really wanting fuller & sexier lips, this is the best way that you could go. I mean, the Kiss plumping system costs $139 (and right now, it’s only $97 with the code: BLACKJULY + free shipping) and it’s rechargeable so you can use it forever. After doing some research and finding out that getting your “lips done” can cost anywhere from $500-$2,000 and that’s once or twice PER YEAR, this doesn’t seem bad at all. Although it may seem steep at first, the price tag on this little baby is way more economical in my opinion–and the more cost-effective route will always have my vote!

I wonder if this would make my lips look too big…I already have big lips but am always looking to make them fuller.

I honestly thought that too, but they pride themselves on realistic results and I didn’t think (even after doing it for longer than directed) that my lips looked too big! Give it a try!

I can’t believe you put on makeup after getting up at 5! I would be bare faced all the time. But this little device definitely plumped your lips – and without the danger of bruising or all the other terrible stuff that was going on with the Kylie challenge.
