How to Get the Metallic Smokey Eye with Covergirl

metallic smokey eye tutorial

Let’s get real. I’m a nut when it comes to new makeup. One might say it’s a problem. On any given day, you can probably find me perusing Ulta, Sephora, or my local drugstore aisle on the hunt for a new product I haven’t tried.

So, I’m trying something new–a makeup tutorial. Since I’m such a huge fan of creating looks for my unreasonably large eyes, I thought I might share with you my go-to night look. I do a toned down version of this for day usually.

I had the great fortune to try out a new line from CoverGirl called Bombshell, and okay you should probably stop reading this and go grab the mascara. Honestly, I just re-purchased Lancome’s Hypnose Drama (my usual) and I’m thinkin’ I may give it a rest for awhile.

I took a walk on the wild side with this line and bought myself some brown-based colors. Not what I normally do–I’m a huge fan of anything labeled “blackest black” and if they make a color darker than that, I’m GAME.

So, in the interest of changing it up so to speak, I went with brown. Amazing how brown can still create a punchy and dramatic night time look. I may be a convert.

Anyway, I had to go ahead and show you the difference by revealing my no eye makeup face. Yeah, it’s scary. No, I’m not 16. After my normal foundation routine, I went ahead and applied Covergirl’s Bombshell Shineshadow in Copper Fling. I’m a huge fan of anything metallic and neutral-looking.

Next, I added some dimension (although I didn’t need much with this product as my base) with the Naked original palette’s “Toasted”. Immediately following, I applied CoverGirl’s Bombshell intensity liquid liner in brown in a wingtip formation. ( I also smudged a little under the lower lashine to get that “bedroom eye” look)

I went a little nutso with the Bombshell Volume mascara (also in brown)–first applying the “1” side, then the darker “2” side, which extended my length so that they literally looked like lash extensions. I went ahead and applied to the lower lashes as well and added some more Shineshadow in the inner and outer parts of the eye to brighten them up.

So there you have it. I am officially a fan. Who would have thought drugstore makeup could beat out designer brands. No joke, I have more volume with this stuff than I ever got with my Lancome or Benefit’s “They’re Real”. I’m also happy to announce that I didn’t have to sacrifice separation of lashes either–no clumps here!

Love it! I always buy drugstore mascara and I typically buy the brown black. I’m super stoked about trying this brown mascara 😉 I’m terrible at applying the liquid eyeliner…have never been able to nail it. 😉
