I don’t know about you but I feel as if my life has been moving at a speed of 100 miles per hour lately with no sign of stopping. Between getting ready for the big move (I move from northern Pennsylvania to Orlando in two weeks), my job and blogging I’ve been keeping a pretty tight schedule and I wouldn’t have it any other way! I feel as though I get my best work done when I’m on the proverbial “crunch time”.
Lately, it’s been lesson planning, classroom preparation, summer blogging, and getting everything straightened out between the moving van and looking for a house. No one ever tells you how tough it is to move long distance! I’ll admit, I’m pretty nervous but I know that this is a chapter in my life that I am ready for. This is going to be a great adventure and I couldn’t be more excited.
That being said, it’s been a bit of a challenge to fit in family and friends! Those of you who know me well know that my biggest trick is to carry a planner (or a million Post it notes–sometimes embarrassingly taped to the back of my iPhone) to keep track of all my obligations. This way, I know exactly what time frame I have to fit everything in! Although it’s tough, I do my best to budget my time by allotting certain days for certain tasks. For example, I go to the trainer (gym) every Monday and Wednesday at the same time so my body and me know what to expect! I also do a ton of preparation on the weekends for my meals to make sure that I can spend the most time with my family and friends when they’re available.
I think it is so important to make time to hang out with your family and friends if only to keep you sane. Although I’ll admit that one of my favorite things to do on a Friday night is to sit here and blog while watching Sex & the City, read fashion magazines, and cuddle with my dog (okay, maybe I’m old!) sometimes the best anecdote to a packed schedule and stressed mind is time with those you are closest to.
One of my favorite things to do is bounce ideas around with my mom. She’s been my strongest support system throughout all of my busy days and it’s nice to take some down time and rejuvenate those creative juices with someone who’s in the trenches with me everyday.
Budgeting your time well is the most important trick that anyone can do. Fitting in exercise is another way I keep my life balanced. Sometimes it’s tough to carve out time in your busy day to work out, and so many times I know I’ve felt like giving up due to being exhausted. But when I actually do workout I notice that I sleep better, have more energy, am happier, am able to relieve some of my stress, and am more alert for those things that I need to do during my busy day.
I know that most of you are in the same boat as me when I say that I start my day at 6am and am usually still going around midnight. Lack of sleep can take a lot out of you but achieving a balance of body and mind will provide you with the most clarity and balance. Make sure to get sleep, exercise regularly and most of all carve out regular time to those who matter most. When all is said and done work will always be there, but times with friends and family are what you’ll remember!
In this particular photo, I’m on my way to work at 7am! After work, I went to the gym then spent time with my boyfriend and his family at a fun outdoor beach concert. I love doing fun and random things that just SCREAM summertime! What could be more fun that a concert on the beach with friends?!
