I’m going to go ahead and throw it out there–taking road trips was probably the best part of our honeymoon in my eyes. Getting to see such fantastic sights for the first time with my new husband was such an unforgettable experience.
Anybody who tells you that seeing that Grand Canyon in person is the same as the pictures is lying. In fact, I feel like you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who could say that with a straight face. No photo I have ever seen does this sight any justice. Not. One. Bit. The sheer width of it is enough to keep you staring for hours!
Yes, I am definitely getting the butt tingles looking at the people on this cliff. Let’s get real–I got the butt tingles even looking over it while I was there! It was unreal to see the water inlets, rock formations, and crazy animals that think it’s a good idea to go climbing on them.
This sporty little number is what we made our excursions in: the Kia Sportage! We were so happy with the extra space an SUV provided for all of our traveling gear, and it had amazing features such as the panoramic sun roof and the air conditioned seats (a must in the heat of Nevada). But the best part? It got us to scenery like this in amazing comfort:
And got us to make memories like this at the Grand Canyon:
A couple days later, we took the Sportage out to Red Rock Canyon for more amazing scenery:
This place had amazing beauty and we actually got to climb around on the rocks! This kinda made us realize that we should probably do more cardio, but it was still a lot of fun.
When we got too hot, we would head back to the car and pump the a/c while we took the scenic route around the canyon. Everything about this place is absolutely breathtaking! It’s not bad on gas either for a an SUV of this size. I was expecting a lot worse, but as we got truckin’ along Route 64 we noticed it got about 30 MPG. Pretty decent!
Not going to lie, we had a line behind us to take shade under this rock! We thought that waking up early and heading out the Red Rock would make for cooler temperature, and although that was temporarily true, it was very short-lived! That’s right–I’m talkin’ 80 to 115 degree in a HOT second. Ridiculous! Good news is that by the time it got to be that hot, we were just starting to embark on our “13 mile scenic drive” to take in the sights with the a/c!
Seeing these kinds of places is one of those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities that we won’t soon forget. We even talked about the next time we’re planning our trip out to the Las Vegas area. There’s just too much to do (even though we packed in pretty much all we could physically do). We loved everything about our experieces on our roadtrips and we’re planning our next one to Nashville this fall!
Have you guys ever been to the Grand Canyon or Red Rock Canyon? What did you think?
