Tipsy Cider

tipsy cider

Hey everyone! It’s Nate with another great recipe for you to try out. Now that we’re into the colder days of fall everyone is looking for a way to stay warm…not that it gets cold here in Florida, but sometimes it’s fun to turn down the air conditioner and pretend. For me, not many things say fall as much as apple cider. It was always the drink of choice every fall for my sisters and I when we were little. Now that I’m older I do what most people do to their favorite childhood drinks…add a little booze! So get your stove tops fired up! It’s time to make some Tipsy Cider! Here’s what you’ll need:

(For about two drinks)

2 cups Apple Cider

1/2 Cinnamon Stick

2 Whole Cloves

1/4 tsp Freshly Grated Nutmeg

1 Egg White

1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract

Scant 1/4 cup White Sugar

1 Orange

Bourbon of your choice!

Like it says above, this will make only a couple of drinks so just multiply the ingredients until you get to the number you want.

The first thing you need to do is get the cider “cooking”. Add the cider, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg to a sauce pan and heat on the stove over medium heat. Stir this mixture occasionally while you do the other prep for this drink, and get ready for your house to smell amazing as it heats up! Try to keep the cider from boiling, turn down the heat if necessary.

The next part of this drink is the delicious layer of vanilla, orange meringue that will go on top. Start by separating and collecting the egg white from one large egg and whip it with a hand blender or a whisk if you’re a champion like me (I don’t recommend it. It takes forever). Whip until you can make soft peaks. Add the sugar, vanilla, and some fresh orange zest and mix to combine. At this point, mine turned into more of a lightly whipped cream consistency…wasn’t really what I intended, but it still sits on top of the cider very nicely.

Finally, it’s time to put the drink together! Get your mug out and add a shot of bourbon to it. Now if you’re not the drinking type no worries this drink is great even without the bourbon, but come on…we all know how you celebrate fall. Strain the hot apple cider into your cup almost to the top and then spoon the meringue on top. Garnish with some thick orange zest and nutmeg for fancy points. Now for the part you’ve all been waiting for…
