I’m slowly trying to let go of the beauty that is summer! It’s easy being bright and cheery when you don fun colors like neon yellow and cobalt blue. This neon geometric dress fits the bill and easily transitions from work to play.
I wore this dress last weekend to City Walk when the four of us went out on Saturday night to explore and have some dinner. I decided to wear it to work and simply add my cobalt cardigan to pull some of the color together. With my statement necklace rounding out the color, I simply added my neutral Clark’s sandals (because they feel like heaven on my feet) to let the dress take center stage!
In the spirit of getting along with my newly shorter hair, I wanted to share with you my tricks for styling hair to be curly with a straightener and keeping its shine when the humidity wants to drag it down.
I started with my new peacock straightener (got it from Marshalls for under $25) and rounded my hair in (taking about 4 sections on each side of my head. I was sure not to keep the heat too high–only about 350 degress (high, yeah right!) and not leaving it on too long just so that kinks didn’t happen.
After I finished with the sections and sprayed my anti-humidity hairspray on each strand (ISO Daily Shape working hairspray- love this stuff!) I lightly sprayed on my new CHI Farouk Royal Treatment Rapid Shine spray to make sure the hairspray didn’t dull my strands. Be careful not to spray too much, one light spritz and your hair looks, smells, and feels UH-mazing. I usually score this stuff at a salon for $15 (and sometimes more) but I was psyched to find it locally at the Marshalls in Orlando for about ten. Not too bad!

Subtle brown-rimmed eyes: I’m loving this trend! It’s a natural and toned-down way to make a statement for fall.
Bronzy shadows: Although not a new concept, these shimmery hues can be layered to either tone down your look or make a statement for evening. One to try: Urban Decay Naked Palette
Sunset hues: This new take on a rosy lip with a little bit of brown keeps her look earthy and complements her skin tone. Popping the subtle golden shimmery shadow in the corners of her eyes keeps her looking awake and alert! Lipstick to try: Bobbi Brown: Italian Rose
Berry brights: An unexpected way to wake up your look during the dreary fall months where neutrals usually take center stage, these new berry hues are making an eye-catching appearance! Keep it matte to stay on trend and use one coat of lengthening mascara to keep the look modern. Skip the liner and eyeshadow for a look that’s right now. Lipstick to try: Lord & Berry Vogue Matte Lipstick
Autumn brown lipstick: Although a bold and dramatic look, any skin tone can pull this one off. To make it look more posh than goth, go with a shade that is light enough to contain some flecks of gold. Apply one coat and keep the rest of your makeup neutral. Keep it modern and fun by wearing light-hearted prints like stripes or polka dots with anchoring neutrals like white, cream, or navy. Lipstick to try: Diego Dalla Palma lipstick in Cinnamon
Vampy lips: Vamp it up for a night out or make it office-appropriate and pulled-together by keeping your lips lined and properly moisturized. Skip the blush and eyeshadow–simply contour with bronzer and you’re good to go! My favorite pick: YSL Forbidden Burgundy
Try a smoky brown eye: Switch up your usual gray/black smoky eye for a more updated look with shimmery dark browns. Skip the liner and go for a darker color; switching up to a lighter hue on the tops to highlight the brows. Coat heavily with high volume mascara and top it off with a matte nude. Palette to try: Bobbi Brown Rich Chocolate
Bold liner/nude lips: Try this unlikely combination for skin that looks young and radiant as well as ready for a night out on the town. Grab a liquid liner like Sephora’s Color Proof Waterproof liquid liner after applying a light peach shadow like NARS Pale Peach. Lipstick finishes the look off–add Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie to your pout!
Winged eyeliner: All you need to make a quick and dramatic statement this fall is a winged liquid liner! Quick winged/eyeliner application how-to!
Bronze/peach blush: This is one of the most pretty and understated trends of the season! I love this look because the natural peach hue makes her look like the crisp air of autumn has subtly touched her skin. Peachy/gold gloss finishes the look off while she uses a kohl pencil to lightly line the top and bottom rims of eyes! Blush to try: Lorac Hot & Spicy Peach Shimmer
Weekends call for casual style and what better way to celebrate a couple days of relaxation than to wear neutrals and fun prints! These new camo pants fit like leggings and are just as forgiving in the stretch department, which I find is pretty hard to come by.
This weekend we decided to lay low, we all had a pretty hectic week. We just got some amazing pizza and started the series “Orange is the New Black”. Have you guys ever watched this? It’s pretty outrageous but so far I’m into it.
Althought I was skeptical at first with my new “climate” here in Florida, I’m beginning to ease into the loveliness that is all of the fall colors; if only in the way of clothing! I have to say I am missing the leaves changing but the sunshine down here is impossible to beat. Thursday I went to the Homecoming bonfire/parade for the high school I teach at and it was 93 degrees. Such a surreal thing for me.
In stores now, my favorite colors to buy are ink, burgundy, and I’m trying to find emerald pieces. I’m loving the emerald trend, but it’s so hard to find! I’m currently coveting the look of the emerald structured tote. Can’t wait to find and get my hands on one soon!
