The second I heard “you are work-from-home until further notice” I began thinking of which spot in my house I could immediately transform into a work area.
I said to myself “I need a desk!” But after talking it over with Nate we realized that this isn’t permanent, so we decided on a 6 foot folding table we got from Target for about $46.It folds in half and is wide enough to hold both of my monitors, keyboard, file folders, and a lot more.
Saves us money AND it’ll be useful when we (hopefully) have company around the holidays. BOOM.
Desktop File Organizer
An absolute MUST. I ended up grabbing two: one 3-tiered document tray and a mini file folder unit. For the paper filing organizer, I separated the trays into “meeting briefing notes,” “current projects,” and “outgoing communication”.
I use my file folder organizer to hold my pens/pencils, index cards, a couple books I reference for work, and folders for filing information according to project.
Sanitizer + Tissues
Technically two separate items, but I’m rolling them together because in times like these, they both are necessary!
I’m obsessed with my Big Happy Planner for so many reasons. It definitely comes in handy when it comes to mapping out my day for my daily team check-ins. This agenda keeps me on track and helps me stay organized at a time when that’s very important.
These are wonderful! I love how they are noise-cancelling making them perfect for times when others in your household are on calls.
My husband works from home too (and our offices share a wall), and we have found that many times we end up hearing each other on calls.
These Airpods do a nice job of keeping me focused instead of distracted, plus I get to make playlists to look forward to!
Sticky Note Dispenser
The first day of this set up, I didn’t have a sticky note dispenser and I realized how much I needed it and depend on it when I’m in my office at work. These are perfect for those little follow up action items that don’t merit an entire note page.
I also use sticky notes for quick reference material when I’m working on specific projects–I stick them to the bottom of my monitors so they’re always in my face!
It would be impossible for me to juggle work without having 2 screens and working exclusively from a laptop. I LOVE my display monitors! So very helpful for referencing documents, seeing virtual meetings better, and easy of typing & navigation!
If your company already provides you some–that’s awesome! If not, I know a lot of people are grabbing inexpensive TVs to put on the wall to project out as a display screen. You can also grab a set of your own monitors for a decent price.
BONUS: Your Pets!
Even thought this whole thing has turned us all upside down, one of the perks I’ve found is that I get to spend more time with my furry cuties.
Henna and Ezra always make me smile and Ezzy has made more than one appearance in my conference calls this week! Most of the day, Henna will sleep in Nate’s office while Ez looks exactly as he does here:
