Accessorizing a Black Dress

accessorizing a black dress

Oh, the age old question–how do you accessorize a little black dress? Well, this one is a little bit more casual and definitely one of the ones I’m living in this summer. I originally bought this dress for Nate and my vacation in May to Florida but I’ve found that it’s much more than something that can be used as a beach cover up.

One of the best things about black is that you can change up your accessories and have virtually hundreds of outfits in order to make the dress look different each time you wear it. Seeing as how teal/turquoise is one of my favorite colors this season, I naturally went for the bright and fun hue! I grabbed my new structured bag and found a $2 waist belt at Body Central. I picked up a bunch of them the other day for a total of under $10! Oh, deals. Hopefully this translates in the south!

Blame it on Mother Nature, but if you didn’t notice I wore my hair straight for the first time since last year! I was a little lazy, didn’t want to curl, but thanks to some products I was able to attempt to make it look like it was on purpose. Oooo, tricky! First, I used Paul Mitchell’s Awapuhi Wild Ginger Styling Treatment Oil (about a quarter size) and worked it through my ends to prevent split ends. I’m in love with this line. My hairstylist being the genius that she is suggested it to me and I’m a definite convert.

After that, all I had to do is run this baby (Hana Pro flat iron) through my strands once and PRESTO. That’s never happened before, I was psyched. I know I have thin hair but it never does what I want it to do. This iron heated up quick and was able to straighten and blend my short layers into my long ones enough so that it doesn’t look funky like normal. I think I’ll keep it around!

Well, it’s Friday! Yessss! Hopefully you all made it through the week unscathed and are able to enjoy some downtime or fun plans this weekend. It’s been hotter than ever here lately and with an air conditioner I can’t say that I’m complaining. Around here, we wait months and months for mere days of this heat so we can’t really complain when it finally arrives! 🙂
